pointless information... yes!

Quick post - quick post!
There´s a whole lot of snow here in Akureyri! It´s kinda fun but it seriously just keeps on snowing and snowing and snowing. Typical though, as I write this it is not snowing. However, the there is a lot of snow and I´m very grateful that a certain someone changed my tires for me!
My parents want me to come home for a bit in December! I won´t say no to that! Hafrún and co. said they could puppy-sit my little love-ball. Hopefully I can leave the 7th but there may be some conflict with school. I have to get that sorted.... yesterday I think my dad said. Welp.
I have started to light candles every evening. Its just so peaceful having them flicker in my windowsill.
I have also started to contemplate whether I should move to the States in May. Maybe try to find a job, maybe try to find some internship, maybe just hang out in Key West (yea right... the farthest I would get is Jamestown Beach). Contemplating, contemplating, contemplating.
I cut my nail yesterday! Ekkkk... I´m lucky I didn´t cut off the tip of my left pointer-finger. Knives are dangerous. I didn´t have a band-aid so I wrapped toilet paper and used scotch tape. Worked like a charm!

Welp.... this is called pointless information... hope you enjoy it!

surprises, cakes and 2 girls...

I have decided that I need a maid. Yes, a woman or man who would come to my little apartment and clean it... maybe once a week. That would be nice. VERRRRY nice. So yes, I have been cleaning my apartment today. I felt so dirty after having been in Sara´s spanking clean apartment yesterday that I just felt that I couldn´t be a lesser woman and have a messy apartment. So I´ve been cleaning. Not studying, but cleaning. The priority list is... psh what priority list.

So, as I bust my ass, Trixy sits in the couch, on top of all the cushions like a little princess sleeping. I think I should have named her Garfield. That´s another story...

So, a little weekend tell-all. Sara and I went to a birthday party on Friday. Jaime, a Spaniard working here and lives in Útsteinn (student housing) was having a birthday party and Sara and I were invited. The interesting part was that we didn´t even know who Jaime was, how old he was or what in the world he was doing in Iceland. But, we were invited, and like two courteous girls, we accepted the invitation. When one is invited to a birthday party, one should bring a present. We are poor and didn´t know Jaime and therefore didn´t have a clue what he would like for his birthday. So what do the two geniuses do...? We built a cake. A chocolate Betty C cake and decorated it with gummies! NAMMI NAMMI. It was beautiful. So, having spent like 4 hours on the cake, we decided to get ready for the surprise birthday party. It was suppose to start at 22:00 sharp. I think we arrived at 11:30 sharp. Blame it on the titans.

We had a blast and below are some pictures to confirm that.

Me and my cutie...

We built a cake... a beauty... we didn´t know how old he was but we knew he was twenty something so we put 2?

We were veeeeerrrrryyyyyy proud...

And of course very cool while walking to Útsteinn...

And oh so excited for the BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!

Perez Hilton talks about Icelands financial situation...

taken from www.perezhilton.com

Fighting Over Finance

As we mentioned on Wednesday, things were looking pretty bad for Iceland when the U.K. threatened to sue the country over lost deposits held by 300,000 Brits in Icelandic banks.

Well, today, British treasury officials started to fly out to Reykjavik for emergency discussions now that U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has declared diplomatic war on Iceland.

It seems that the collapse of three Icelandic banks is even greater than the $1 billion known to be at risk.

So, as of yesterday, Brown has launched an attack against Iceland for their 'illegal' refusal to pay back the billions it owes to British investors after their banks failed.

Brown used "anti-terrorism powers to freeze Icelandic assets as fears grew that vast sums of British cash could be lost."

Many private companies, charities, town halls, and more have lost about $27 billion in Iceland.

Many are fearing that Iceland is now pretty much a bankrupt state and owes their investors over $47 billion.

Brown said, "We are freezing the assets of Icelandic companies in the UK where we can. We will take further action against Icelandic authorities wherever necessary to recover the money. I don't apologise for it. This is a very unusual situation, where a country has effectively defaulted."

As for Iceland, its prime minister, Geir Haarde said he was disappointed with the lack of assistance he's received from Western countries.

Uhmm, hello! No one wants to be friends with a country that takes your money and won't return it. No one except for crazy Russia, which has even offered Iceland a $5 billion loan.

With times as bad as they are, we need to be careful where we put our money.

Sara´s Christmas present

I go to class on Tuesdays and Fridays. If it wasn´t for Trixy I would be in bed until ~12:00 every day. Instead she wakes me up at 9:00 if not 8:00. I don´t even use an alarmclock anymore. Sara has trouble waking up in the mornings and I call her when I wake up. I told her to get a dog. She said no. Someone else told her to get a kid. She said NO. Maybe she needs Arnis "worlds loudest alarm clock". I think I always woke up before the alarm rang after hearing the ring on that thing. Good Christmas present, eh? Sara, you´re in for some good mornings....

blog... don´t study...

Howdie howdie!
So... the ever so consistent blogger is at it again. So, the Polar Law study is going well, we have completed two courses, international environmental law being one of them. I was really looking forward to that course and it did not let me down. Very pleased with the teacher, very pleased with the material and very pleased with my classmates! What more can I ask for??

At the moment I am in Suðureyri and I will be here for several days. I will go back to Akureyri sometime in the beginning of October. It is always grand to see my grandparents, Bjarni, family and the beautiful fjörd. Everytime I take a walk I appreciate the nature more and more. I love this place.

So... some interesting links that I would like people to look at:

1) This, is a little movie clip about what happens to our... well... stuff after and before we buy it. What would happen if we would think twice before we buy e.g. food and other goods? Instead of buying chicken wrapped up in plastic and styrofoam, we would just take our tupperware to the grocery store and have them put the chicken in that. Why not? Same with vegetables that we buy... skip the little bag that we put them in and put them in some clothe bag. Now I´m not saying that I do these things... hopefully sometime in the near future I will do this... but what if we were encouraged to do this either by the government, some organization or group. Maybe this is done elsewhere but not in Iceland and I think we should stop our spending and materialistic ways and start doing the things that really make us happy.

2) Trixy pictures and some other pictures... taken straight from my Facebook album: here and here

Well... I´m only going to give you all those two links. Hopefully I´ll blog consistently so that you all will actually have fun when you drop by!

Me and my blue bike...

So... I bought myself a bike yesterday.
Not the kind with a motor, but just a regular bike. I rode this bike to school and my ass hurt. They say it´s something you get used to and I guess they are right because people wouldn´t ride bikes if it was painful. So yea. Cool.

Hmm not much to say today. School is going fine... I think we´re supposed to have class on Saturday and Sunday or something like that... crazy. But this will all clear up tomorrow in class. Environmental Law and Climate Change... WOOHOOO! Now that´s something I look forward to. I bought the book online and mum brought it to Iceland for me... and yeah... I was and is HUGE. She had to switch suitcases in order to bring it to me, she had to check her bag in because she had two handbags, and she had to take the book out of the bag when flying to Akureyri so that it could fit in the overhead compartment. So yea... I better read the hell out of that book!

Trixy is doing fine. She´s kinda dirty at the moment and needs a bath. Anyone want to come over? ;) She´s always the same cute little asshole (hahahahahahaha that doesn´t translate right... rassgat)

Well, I´m not going to ramble on about nada... but here´s a picture of me and my new best friend...

Tuesday, September 02, 2008

It´s September the 2nd!!

Well well well.....

Life in the time of Hildur. As many of you know, I am very very very slow when it comes to just about everything. I take a long time to eat, I take a long time in the shower, I take a long time to get ready and put my make-up on and I take a long time to get started. Why am I saying this? Well, so that you who read this and know me don´t get all pissy when I´m late or don´t blog for a while and yadayada... :D

So, I took my little little baby doggy to the vet yesterday to get her shots. She did such a good job and didn´t even twitch when she got the shot. My little nibbler just had to have a bone in front of her and then she´s OUT IN HER OWN WORLD. However, while we were waiting for the vet we met some other dogs. One was a mix of an icelandic sheephearding dog and a border collie who was having a nervous breakdown and shedding all his hair. I think I was coughing hairballs the entire night on a 3 minute interval while taking my inhaler in between hairball coughing. Trixy had a love/hate relationship with this dog. On the one hand, she crawled in between my legs while he tried to sniff her, on the other hand she laid down on her back and tried to have him lick her in places where the sun don´t see. I think she´s bipolar.

She´s really cute but still has some accidents inside. Like every article I read on the internet says, I should role up a newspaper and whack myself on the head. I have just about finished all the free newspapers that my building gets.

Bjarni has been here for the past week... left yesterday. Great having him here! Mum visited on Sunday and was here for about six hours. ;) She got to see Trixy and I think she´ll be getting a puppy sometime this next year. HAVE FUN DAD!!! :D:D:D
OHHHH... before I forget... mum bought Trixy a pink little coat! My little puppy has a pink little coat! Now she has a pink coat, a blue Hanson jacket and a red raincoat!! What a fashionable dog, eh??

Lots of love!

TRIXY HAS ARRIVED!!!

All right guys....

I swear....

SHE IS THE MOST CUTEST THING YOU´VE EVER SEEN!

This is when I saw her for the first time at the breeders home. The breeder told me that she was a determined little puppy and didn´t let the other dogs boss her around. I asked her if she wasn´t then just aggressive, but she said nope! Just a puppy who knows what she wants!

Trixy had a big weekend in front of her and would see half of Iceland when she was only 8 weeks old because I had to go to Akureyri to move into my apartment. So... we went from Reykjavík (where we picked her up) to Akureyri and from Akureyri to Suðureyri all in 3 days. Now, either she will LOVE the car.. or absolutely HATE it. I´m hoping it will be the former.

Now we must remember.... she´s TINY!! This is her and Zoldan, Einar´s golden retriever. She didn´t like him sniffing at her every second of every second, so she tried to nibble his nose a little bit to try to make him get the picture. It didn´t work. She crawled under my legs, the table, wherever she could go.

Trixy and Sallý however... are BEST FRIENDS. Who would´ve thought, a rat and a mouse get on together like THIS II!

Well... If I become one of those people who doesn´t talk about anything but her dog, then please STOP ME. Thank you ;) But she is adorable and I´m so glad to have finally gotten her! Who knows, maybe I´ll start blogging again because of her ;) You never know!

ciao!

JUNE ALREADY??

WOW... ok sorry. I have been incredibly blog-lazy these past several months and I have not had any desire to blog. Sometimes there´s just not that much to say. Well, I usually have tons of things to say... but whether I really want the whole world to know about all the pointless information/non-information aka ramble that I think about and comes out of my mouth... it is probably not wise.

What has happened lately? Well, an Icelandic national holiday was on Sunday. The day of the fisherman. Actually, I have no clue how it is translated but lets just call it that. Considering how many fisherman there are here in the "northern-westfjords" I was quite surprised how easy and calm the weekend was. (Yes, I was working) BUTTTT... the people here in Suðureyri know how to party and they did so. And did it well with a country/cowboy themed evening. That was Saturday night. Then on Sunday the towns-people went to the harbour and played some games and had fun. Those who decided to go all out were still drinking at 16:00 on Sunday. As I said, the people in Suðureyri know how to party well. I dragged my fisherman to the harbour, then to drink coffee at grams and gramps´ house, and then he took me (along with many other people) sailing for about an hour and a half. It was really nice. I´ll have to post some pictures.

Today Bjarni and I went fishing. What fun things we can do in Suðureyri. He caught a haddock about <--------------------> this big... I caught a haddock about <---> this big. All in all they were very little and we threw them back in the ocean and asked them to send us their great grandfather (hence a larger fish). That didn´t happen, but it was worth a try.

My birthday is in 11 days. Then I turn 23 years old. All presents should be sent via mail, not pigeon.

MUCH LOVE

MAy day

Mmmm....

It´s May already. Whoa Nelly!!! Time sure does fly! I cannot believe that I´ve been working for 5 months already, been school-less for 5 months, haven´t seen my Williamsburg girlies in 5 months, haven´t seen my Akureyri girlies in oh... 6 months... I also cannot believe that Sólveig Fríða and Stína are still living in the wild world of Europe and I cannot just go to Reykjavík to see them.

I was in Reykjavík two weekends ago and I really didn´t know what to do with myself there. Of course I had a blast seeing Friðdóra, Örn and the twins, and seeing my parents (although my pissy mood got the best of me... oops)... I really didn´t know who or what to see. I tried to go shopping and ended up buying running shoes but that´s really it. A bit strange.

So, I am still looking for an apartment in Akureyri, one that is dog-friendly. My dad doesn´t understand what dog-buying nonsense has gotten into me, my mams completely understands, I think it makes complete sense, Bjarni thinks that it is a waste of money. Sometimes a little puppy is just the bundle of joy that makes your day. Yippý skippý!

Well... I´m rambling on... hope to hear from some of you soon!

ciao

Male chauvenistic pigs...

I found this picture on the internet, um... well actually on perezhilton.com (where I get my gossip), and I couldn´t help but get a little bit pissed. Maybe I´m a bore and don´t get good humour, but I don´t understand why Hillary Clinton needs to be depicted so rediculously, a woman wearing a nice dress clothes and BAM POW KAPLUNG these huge ass breasts knock your eyes out! Finally when there is a strong and determined female putting herself out there and running for office in the "land of the free", the "land of dreams" and the "boiling pot" of world, people find the need to belittle her and put some huge ass boobs on her to make sure people what... know that she is a woman? Do toys of men politicians have extremely large packages, aka penises and balls, so that we can be 100% sure that that toy is supposed to be a man?

Don´t get me wrong... I love being a woman, I love having breasts and love my femininity... but do toymakers (I guess these are "adult" toy makers... in the non-XXX way) seriously think that by throwing a pair of huge boobs on a toy Hillary Clinton is the only way in which people will realize that the toy is her? If so, the makers of the toy are doing a terrible job and need an imagination that sees women as something else than just breasts. ERRRRRR!!!

The feminist has just about had enough male chauvenism! Please have in mind that I am not talking about all men... I am not bashing every guy out there... I´m not necessarily ridiculing guys, just people, men and/or women who have a need to label other people e.g. by sex, color, occupation etc. The point with this article is this: People are people regardless of their gender. We can all learn a little something from each other, after all, we are not perfect. We are also not all the same because if we were, we would be robots and dull and borring. Instead of bashing each other for being different, lets try to learn something new that we didn´t know before and try to use each others strengths to get us farther in life. Let us just be civilized, understanding, respectful and kind.

I mean after all... THE YEAR IS 2008!!!

ciao,

picture post!

This blog entry is going to be a so-called picture post. A picture will appear below, along with a small text describing the beautiful picture. Always fun to do something different, besides, I owe some people some pictures!

Here we go!

BUCKLE YOUR SEATBELTS!

I had to wake my dad, my uncle and Arnthor to get my car back on the road. Some individuals were more concerned about the status of the car rather than the status of their daughter.... cough cough. I guess he could just "see" that I was all right. But... these brave men saved my day!!!

I would say that that slant is approximately 45%!!!!

This is Sallý. She´s the bitch that got to hang out in my bed. Not many dogs are special enough to chillz in my bed ;)

The landscape here in Suðureyri is beautiful!! This picture is taken on one of my walks...

And my handsome father who is in Brazil as we speak with the little one, Einar. Sure hope they are having fun...

Well, that´s all for now! Hope to hear from you all... some of you.... anyone... ;) You guys are so much fun!

Howdelídódellí

Quick post... quick post

So, the first thing on my mind... I´m thinking about buying a Yorkie! The wee puppy would be ready maybe in August... born in June! OH WOW!!! That means that I would have to stay in a dog friendly apartment in Akureyri. Would that be so hard to find? We shall see. But yea, I´m definitly thinking about getting a puppy ;)

Number two on my mind: I´m lazy. It has been a while since I´ve gone to the gym and I don´t like it. I feel like a blob. Like gak (the nickelodian goo that only USA kids would know about).

Number three... I can´t believe I haven´t posted this on my blog yet... but my dearest friend Anna is getting married after a year or so!!! 2009!!! CONGRATS BABES! I´m going to have to find a super fun picture of you and post it in the near future!

Four: Taxes get me nervous! I was "doing" my taxes on Monday/Tuesday and I nearly had a nervous breakdown.... nothing serious, just some unnecessary panicing going on. Oh the way I lose it sometimes ;)

Five-er-ínó: I wouldn´t mind some sun. Sun sun sun here we come. Hmm... which gets me to thinking... in the Beatles song "here comes the sun" why does it say "sun sun sun here WE come..." Why do the people have to go to the sun rather than the sun come to them. I mean, who the hell goes to the sun, unless they are talking about going to Jamaica or something where they are actually following or traveling somewhere nice and warm and sunny to be able to be in the sun. I mean, the guys are from Liverpool. I will draw the conclusion that the weather in Liverpool is like the weather in London = RAIN AND FOG, and then I guess I would understand that line in the song. BUT if it were my song, I would most likely have the line be "sun, sun, sun here we travel around the world in order to go to the tropics and have your light shine on us because it does not do so in Liverpool." -Just a thought....

my job description

I found this on some AOL page. This is supposed to tell me what kind of job I´m supposed to have. The name of the article was "hot jobs for your horoscope"... I wonder if all gemini´s are like this? I think this horoscope is telling me to try to make it in ceramics. Hildur the clay molder. What do you think??

Gemini (May 21-June 21)

Your traits: enthusiastic, communicative, optimistic and intellectually curious. You are full of passion and energy, and have a voracious appetite for new experiences.

Compatible Jobs: Since you crave intellectual stimulation, look for jobs that allow you to continually learn new things. Consider a career in academia, research, investigative journalism or fields that require travel. Geminis are often good with their hands, and therefore might consider working in construction or carpentry.

Famously successful Geminis: John F. Kennedy, Henry Kissinger, Marilyn Monroe

Sooooooorrryyyyyy!

Oh what happened to my enthusiastic writing abilities? Well, sometimes I just don’t have much to say, sometimes I’m lazy and don’t want to write, sometimes I just don’t feel like it. But like right now, when I start, I can’t stop... I just need to write more often.

Anywho... sorry for not writing... it happens to the best of us.

Easter, Easter, Easter. Yes, this was the big Easter weekend and this little lady was working. Day shift. Soooooo... worked a lot, slept very little, ate tons of candy and tried to make the best of it. Was I successful?? Ehhhh... no comment. But yes, here are some notes:

1. The rock festival “Aldrei fór ég suður” was on Friday and Saturday... went fairly well although I only saw 2 bands play

2. One pick-up truck ended up in the ocean... no one got hurt

3. I got two Easter eggs... one from myself

I locked my car keys/ house keys in the house this morning on my way to work, had to call my uncle, wake him up and run up the hill to get the spare-keys. Not good. This was at 6:30 a.m. The day after Easter is a holiday here so… um… yea… woke him up damn early. Then he drove me down the hill and I was happy. Got to work a tad bit late but nothing to cry over…

Oh… something I was always going to tell you all about… I had a little car mishap several weeks ago where my car had a mind of its own and wanted to go a little off-roading. So, the Sizzler and I ended up sliding off the road coming home from work and got stuck. Stuck stuck stuck. It took 2 cars to drag me up. I am going to have to post some pictures in the near future. Be patient. ;)

Well… This is it for now… Hope everyone had a great Easter and ate a lot of candy. I did. Múahahahha!

What color is YOUR aura??

So the other day I went to the witch store (which store? THE WITCH STORE!) here in Ísafjörður. There they have all kinds of fortune telling books, how to read tarot cards, inscense etc. and then one book caught my eye, Aura reading for beginners. I picked it up, read the back of the cover, took it to the cash register and bought it. So... Lilja my aunt and myself will be reading everyones auras in a few weeks. If you don´t want us to know how you feel... then avoid us. Wait, NO DON´T! There´s not that many people around here who I hang out with... so please don´t avoid me, just tell me not to read your aura! PLEASE DON´T LEAVE ME GUYS! haha!

Hmm... other news. I was thinking about going to Reykjavík tomorrow but I think that idea is dead due to the fact that the "old boys" police soccer team is competing on Friday and Saturday and I´ll probably have to work on Friday. We shall see...

It´s snowing. I don´t know if that´s news to anyone... but... it´s still snowing.

Oh... more news! My partner´s leaving me. Yes, he´s off to Sheep River Hook. Not good... not good. Some blame my bad jokes, my singing and my hyperactivity. I don´t. ;)

Well... that´s it for now. I have noticed that NO ONE comments on my blog anymore, I´m most likely to blame since I went many weeks without blogging. BUT IF YOU READ THIS, I really wouldn´t mind a comment or two (not two from the same person... that would just be crazy).

just a little input

Yet again, we have a school shooting in the US. This time the state of choice was Illinois. The lucky state of Illinois was pulled out of the candy bag and stuck in the spoiled child’s mouth and chewed and chewed and chewed. It’s only a matter of time until all the states are going to be in the spoiled fat child’s mouth, all shaken and devastated because of the spoiled child who wants and asks for more and more and more. Now who is this spoiled child?

The child could be the government of the USA. The government that stands firm on the idea and its decision that gun control is bullocks. That according to the second amendment in the Bill of Rights of the United States written in 1791, let me say again… THE YEAR 1791… people have the right to bear arms in the United States of America. And by God, we do not dare amend that amendment because then the red neck, hillbillies, gangsters, hoodlums, terror stricken people that feel obliged to keep a gun in their nightstand to “keep out” the people who have guns, might object. BUT DO TELL ME….

What kind of impact would gun restrictions have on these situations? If people would have to fulfill greater qualifications in order to obtain a gun, what kind of impact would that have? Why is it that John Smith, who has mental health problems, can go out to his local gun store and buy a gun? Buy a gun and not have any training or have to take any course in order to get a gun license?

I am in awe. I am pro gun restriction. Get rid of the bloody gun.

I´m back!

I guess it is time to jot a couple things down... eh?
So, my loooooong winter break was fantastic! I did nothing. I drank beer, hung out with the boys club and did nothing. Oh so chilled and I loved it! Loved loved LOVED it! Thanks guys! I also got to see Lindsay and Nolan and I swear to God we are talking about such a cute little family! He pissed on my bed... but I do not care... he is so cute! ;) Best of wishes to Lindsay!

So I am back on the klake... Suðureyrar city. It is going well. I´m working a lot and loving not having to study and be stressed every single day! A total 180 from how it was before. The "simple life" can be good! ;)

Friðdóra and Örn had two baby girls! CONGRATULATIONS! I cannot wait to go to Reykjavík to see them! That is the next thing on my to do list!!!

I´m going to a Þorrablót, an Icelandic holiday where we Icelanders eat sheep’s head, sour sheep balls, shark, dried fish and much much more! Doesn´t it sound spectacular? Anywho, this pagan holiday is on February 2 in Suðureyri. It´s going to be a blast! Cannot wait! All kinds of old traditional Icelandic food. Some find it nasty... but the nastiness of the food and the mood it creates makes it all the more fun! I´ll have to take pictures of the sour sheep balls for you all.

Otherwise I´ve just been hanging out... taking the dogs, Sally and Sóldán (pictures will come later), on great, mind easing walks. Oh the great outdoors. My best friends: dogs. Hildur the allergenic girl and the dogs. What a match!

Well... I will post again soon... hopefully! Pictures will be coming in soon... Although I have been saying that for about a month now.

Tata!
